Let It Blossom

Lady Spring is finally here and summer’s right on her heels!

When you live in Vermont, there never seems to be a shortage of design inspiration. The green grass and flowers abloom against a backdrop of endless sky with silhouettes of distant barns and mountains-all familiar scenes in my neck of the woods. It’s simply a dream to interpret nature’s spring/summer color palettes into my country living designs. You, too, can easily serve up a little slice of farmhouse heaven by combining floral and check prints. Let’s see how it’s done!

Watch Her Blossom!

I’ll never forget my childhood bedroom…

that evolved through the years by adding age appropriate elements piece-by-piece. The staples were a yellow and white check canopy bed coordinated with daisy wallpaper, all thanks to my stylish mother. Looking back, gardening and decorating were hobbies my mother and I always enjoyed doing together, it connected us.

Keeping things teen happy, this charming bedroom combines both vintage and modern pieces-a yellow vintage print floral rug with modern ruby red night stand lamps and wall art. Check out the Kid’s Cottage Charm Yellow Full Upholstered Bed. You’ll love the fact it’s a slipcover and she’ll love having a gorgeous bedroom to blossom in! Now, about that adorable embroidered accent chair with the matching pillow and ottoman…if you’re absolutely wild about it, you’re going to go crazy when you learn there’s an abundance of floral bouquet seating and more waiting for you in a one-stop flower shop found at Grandin Road.

If you’re done picking posies, it’s time to take a slow country stroll through this next Early American Farmhouse-inspired bedroom. Just so happens this room design received a merit award from the New York Institute of Art and Design. If you like a little feminine farmhouse flair, I think you might just fall in love with this one!

Amber Waves of Grain

Nothing says SPRING quite like a big yellow forsythia wreath…

but nothing says American quite like the carefully chosen pieces for this red and yellow American farmhouse bedroom.

Every designer has their favorite vendors for specific merchandise, and I’m going to let you in on my fav three for American-made farmhouse seating, braided rugs and iron beds: first up is Great Windsor Chairs; next in line is the best place to purchase braided rugs, Stroud Braided Rugs; last but not least, for the majestic star of this bedroom, shop the The American Iron Bed Company.

If all this shopping has left you hungry (for more), you're in luck!

Betsy the Sexy Cow

If you’ve had the time to peruse the Smoothyblues EAT Design Gallery, you already know I always start with the seating and I LOVE to mix up the styles! For easy care, I chose a Waverly print, ruffled slipcover in a springy robin’s egg blue, that way you, the family and friends can just relax and have fun without worrying about the spills. And make no mistake about it, Miss Moo, is all in on having fun! Heads up-for those who know Miss Moo, they’ll tell you she goes by, Betsy the Sexy Cow!

As always, I’ve hand-picked a special tune for you all…
